A Dream Come True In Venice
Everyone has that 'one place' in the world they've dreamed of visiting since before they can remember. Well for me, that was Venice, Italy. That dream came true in 2013, with my best friend beside me.
There's something about the small, cobble stoned streets; the busy gondola-filled canals and sweet sound of Venetian music that screams romance! Even though I wasn't holidaying with my boyfriend, you could still feel the love in the air.
Here there are no cars or roadways, just canals and boats. The Grand Canal snakes through the city, which is built on more than 100 small islands in a marshy lagoon in the Adriatic Sea.
If you're wondering what there is to do in this idyllic Italian location, the advice to me was 'get lost' (in a good way!). Lost in the stunning architecture. Mysterious passageways. Sound of people singing from the back of gondola's.
After unwinding in the Piazza San Marco and taking an audio tour through the streets, we found ourselves looking for a quaint restaurant to sit down, sip on Prosecco (Italian sparkling wine) and watch the world go by at. With plenty of restaurants and cafes lining the waterways, that certainly wasn't hard to find.
Fortunately, I was only there long enough to fall in love with the place - so much so i'm screaming to go back. However, I can imagine it's a destination where only a few days is enough. After all, you're in Italy. Why not venture to Rome, Florence, Tuscany, Milan or drive the Amalfi Coast?
